Kogarashi (木枯) — Weathered Slanting Bonsai (Chuhin Size)

Kogarashi (木枯), meaning “Winter Wind,” is defined by its long, weathered trunk and strong directional movement. Rather than growing vertically, the trunk rises from a substantial exposed root base and gradually leans through the composition, giving the tree a naturally windswept and aged appearance.

The design is best described as a naturalistic slanting form, influenced by Shakan, rather than a conventional upright style. Its asymmetric canopy reinforces the direction of the trunk while leaving enough open space to appreciate the bark and branch movement.

A major feature of this tree is its coarse, deeply textured bark, which contrasts beautifully with the much finer foliage. Each compound leaf is formed from numerous small paired leaflets, creating a light and delicate canopy despite the rugged character of the trunk.
